Meo Vac district borders Dong Van district and Yen Minh town (Ha Giang), Bao Lam district (Cao Bang) and China. Along with Dong Van, Meo Vac is one of the places with many most famous tourist attractions and beautiful scenery in Ha Giang. Hanh Phuc Road (National Highway 4C) has a length of 200 km and also runs through Meo Vac district.

You can go to Meo Vac at any time of the year because every season is beautiful. In spring, peach blossoms, plums, and mustard flowers bloom. Summer, with cool weather, is the ideal time for many conquering experiences. October to December is buckwheat flower season.

Move

Meo Vac is more than 150 km from Ha Giang city, about 30 km from Dong Van town. From the city, the most common route is to drive along Highway 4C through Quan Ba, Yen Minh and then to Meo Vac. Some other routes go through National Highway 34 then National Highway 4C or through National Highway 4C then Provincial Highway 176 (smaller road, travel may take longer). The terrain in the rocky plateau is difficult to navigate, dangerous, with many mountain passes, so visitors must be more careful when driving.

Accommodation

Accommodation in Meo Vac is quite diverse, including motels, hotels and homestays, prices range from 250,000 VND to 1.5 million VND per double room. Dorm (bed in a community house) costs about 80,000 VND to 200,000 VND.

In recent years, homestays in Ha Giang in general and Meo Vac in particular have developed strongly. These accommodation areas are invested in facilities and landscape, close to the lives of indigenous people, so they are loved by tourists.

According to suggestions from booking websites, visitors can choose homestays Meovac H’mong Ecolodge, Auberge de Meovac (Chong Pua), Meo Vac Clay House, Lo Lo Homestay & Cafe Meo Vac, Ma Pi Leng Ecolodge .

Camping service on the white cliffs along Ma Pi Leng Pass with views of the Nho Que River is popular with adventurous people. To get to this place, visitors drive along Ma Pi Leng pass, then go to Ma Pi Leng B road for about 3 km and trekking for about 2 km more. Guests should contact local tour guides to ensure safety.

Nho Que River

Nho Que River originates from the Nghiem Son mountain area (Yunnan, China) flows in a Northwest-Southeast direction, through Dong Van and Meo Vac districts of Ha Giang province and then joins the Gam River at Ly Bon commune, Bao district. Lam, Cao Bang province. The river is 192 km long, the part in Vietnam is 46 km long, weaving through layers of cat-ear rocks to create strong currents. Particularly in the section of Tu San alley and Ma Pi Leng pass in Meo Vac, the river flows gently, winding along the rocky mountains, with blue water.

In 2009, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism classified this area as a Vietnamese scenic relic. Nho Que River Valley is honored as one of Vietnam’s unique tectonic valleys.

Visitors to Nho Que River can try boating, kayaking, and SUP experiences. It will take about an hour to travel the pass down to the boat station and back, through winding roads.

Motorboat service price: 120,000 VND per adult and 60,000 VND per child. Kayak and SUP 100,000 VND per person.

Ma Pi Leng Pass

Ma Pi Leng is one of the “four great passes” in the northern mountains, along with O Quy Ho (Lao Cai – Lai Chau), Pha Din (Dien Bien) and Khau Pha (Yen Bai). The pass is known as the king of passes in the Northwest region, a dangerous road, located in Pa Vi and Pai Lung communes, Meo Vac district and Ta Lung commune, Dong Van district .

Ma Pi Leng Pass is located at an altitude of 1,200 m, 20 km long on the Hanh Phuc road connecting Ha Giang city with Dong Van and Meo Vac districts. From the top of Ma Pi Leng, visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of the rocky plateau. Majestic mountain scenery with steep cliffs on one side and Nho Que river abyss on the other.

Tu San Alley is located at the foot of Ma Pi Leng, on the Nho Que river. The very close distance of the two ravines combined with the green color of the river creates a majestic and poetic scene. To reach Tu San canyon, visitors must take a boat or canoe for about 20 minutes from the wharf upstream of Nho Que.

Many years ago, when there was no hydroelectric dam on the Nho Que River, very few people could approach the foot of the dangerous vertical canyon, and could only admire this majestic scene when stopping at the bends on Ma Pi road. Leng. After hydroelectric power blocked the flow, the Nho Que River became quieter, and people started sending boats to take tourists to the foot of the cliff.

Khau Vai love market

Khau Vai love market, also known as “life market”, is held on March 27 of the lunar calendar every year. The market is more than 100 years old, in Khau Vai village, Khau Vai commune, 180 km from Ha Giang city. The market is a place for people to come together after one or more years of separation. What’s special about the tradition is that there are many couples who go to the market together, the wife goes looking for the wife’s friends, the husband goes to find the husband’s friends, not jealous, not frustrated, respecting each other.

However, Khau Vai love market is being commercialized, gradually losing its rustic look and original meaning. Now the market sells many types of goods like other markets.

Eat what

Meo Vac as well as many other localities of Ha Giang have typical dishes of the province such as banh cuon, au tau porridge, thang co, men men, buckwheat cake, won amaranth, banh chung gou, five-color sticky rice.

Traveling in Meo Vac as well as many other places in Ha Giang is quite difficult, visitors need to be sure of driving, otherwise they should hire a local.
